Unplayable performance

Despite running almost every other game out there including Grand Theft Auto 5, Metal Gear Solid 5, Rainbow Six: Siege, ect, on high at 60+ fps, for some reason I cant get above 25 on very low on SWTOR, and tend so hover between 15-20 with it going as low as 1-5 rather often. It's so bad its almost like the game isn't using my graphics card whatsoever. Any help would be much appreciated, I am really getting into the story but this performance is making the game practically unplayable.

Here are the specs for my laptop (temps are with SWTOR running):

Operating System
Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit

CPU
Intel Core i7 4900MQ @ 2.80GHz 46 °C
Haswell 22nm Technology

RAM
8.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-11-28)

Motherboard
Notebook P15SM-A/SM1-A (SOCKET 0) 47 °C

Graphics
Generic PnP Monitor (1920x1080@60Hz)
Intel HD Graphics 4600 (CLEVO/KAPOK Computer)
2048MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M (CLEVO/KAPOK Computer) 44 °C

Storage
931GB Hitachi HGST HTS721010A9E630 (SATA) 32 °C
232GB Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250GB mSATA (SSD) 59 °C

edit: added dxdiag to post

  • It sounds as if SWTOR may be using your onboard graphics controller instead of your GPU. I have the same card in my build and it works flawlessly, my internet connection is another story mind you lol. Just lets me help other people when my 50m mbps african internet connection is bogged down at this time of night 🙂

I recall seeing a fix for exactly this error a few days ago, let me do a check and I will post a reply when I find it.

    Hang in there!!

Yeah that's what I think the problem is too but I have no idea how to fix it. Glad to hear it runs great on the card though. I did as search and couldn't find anything, praying you have better luck my savior!

  • Unfortunately I just can't seem to find the thread I was referring to.  First and foremost, ensure you have the latest NVIDIA Drivers for the GTX 970m. If that fails try a google search for "Onboard graphics instead of GPU" and go through some of the fixes. If you would, also attach a dxdiag.txt to the post in case one of the more experienced forum users can locate the problem for you as I recall that's how the other user's error was discovered.  Sorry I couldn't be more help mate, I'm sure it's frustrating!

Yeah I just updated my drivers and I've switched my PhysX  and 3D setting over to just my GPU in Nvidia control panel. Also added dxdiag to the original post. Thanks for trying!

Also I did try right-clicking on the launcher and gone down to :"run with graphics processor" and it does say that my GPU is default

Update: I updated my intel integrated graphics drivers and I tried disabling the card in device manager (looked for a way to do it in the BIOS but couldn't find anything) but still nothing. I opened an in-game ticket to maybe get some customer support but just got the generic copy-pasted message which just gave me the basic troubleshooting steps which I did before I even made this thread. Please any help would be appreciated
