At this point it is best to ensure you are only using Toshiba drivers
latest here are released a week ago , check your model is correct
With kaperskey there is a setting called scan secure / encrypted connections that has caused issues with this game in the past , maybe best to disable that setting, but it is not known to cause the issue you have currently.

Thanks, Owen. Downloading Toshiba drivers now. I'll let you know how it goes...

Once the drivers are done , install this particular directx redist as well before launching

*sigh
Ok. Kaspersky was already set to not scan encrypted connections. Also, I added SWTOR.exe, launcher.exe, and brwc_swtor.exe to the exception list.
Updated drivers from Toshiba website - Intel driver stayed the same (but I installed anyway in case it needed a 'repair') and NVIDIA driver went back to a slightly older one,
Installed DX Redist from the link you provided, Owen.
Deleted Bitraider folder to trigger repair, rebooted, started launcher, login, hit play, and.... Same old thing, launcher closes and game doesn't start. 0xc000007b error if I try to start swtor.exe directly.
I hate giving up because I really enjoy this game (haven't played since it has gone f2p, though). Owen, thank you very much for taking the time to try to help, really appreciate it.
