Mathematically, 5v5 would have a greater number of possible teams, since for each possible 3v3 team you also add two more additional characters. :)
Doubt.
If I take Padme+Snips+JKA and add GK and C3PO, I get the same team as when I use Padme+GK+C3PO and add Snips and JKA. There is a lot of overlap
He did say mathematically which is very true. The number of mathematical combinations is much higher for 5v5. What you are describing provides 2 permutations (order matters for distinction) but only one combination (order doesn’t matter)
If we look at only combinations where 3 or 5 characters can only create one set regardless of order then the total number of combinations is much higher in 5v5.
Using 200 characters as a base:
Total number of combinations in 3v3 is 1,313,400.
Total number of combinations in 5v5 is 2,535,650,040
Not even close and obviously you can argue what a reasonable team combination is and whether that should count as a valid combination, but that’s true for both modes.
Until we get a full season of 3v3 completed under the new system we won’t have any meaningful data to make an actual comparison so we wait. The previous season of 3v3 isn’t relevant as the number of auto set defenses is going to be pretty high as crystals were not in play.
