Your making the mistake of comparing yourself to the one or two people who got lucky, your rewards will still be better than most of the guild as by finishing in the top 3 you get two crates.
In the long run the numbers for the top 3 will always be better than the rest of the guild assuming everyone finishes in a similar place each time.
RNG does go against you and you may not get the gear you are after at that particular time but the amount of gear you get will help when gearing other characters up in the future.
