well, power creep makes sure both holdo and rose will be a helluva lot better than mace ;) That has nothing to do with them potentially being diversity hires/roles though.
Mace was my first 7* and will always have a special place in my heart.
Even if he was an affirmative action hire for the council.
The thing people are worried about is that mace potentially might not have been that cool if he was an affirmative action hire.
It's important to note the difference between not wanting characters/roles to be created to make sure the cast is diverse and not wanting a diverse cast at all.
Most people don't have a problem with a diverse cast, but are worried that by forcing diversity the movie/game will be less enjoyable. So NOT less enjoyable because the cast is diverse, but less enjoyable because the diversity is forced. Imo that's a legitimate concern, unfortunately it can't be debated because people always argue vs the worst possible point of view and it gets heated rather quickly. (both sides of the argument)
anyway, i hope this explains why some people aren't too thrilled about the whole inclusivity/diversity movement that is so hot 'n happening right now.
Then entire cast if Rouge One was made up and is probably the most diverse cast of a Star Wars movie to date.
This is a different era than the original movie was made and if they created roles to show that the Star Wars universe is more than white men running around blowing things up that is entirely their right and if anyone really had that large if a problem with it they can
Buy the rights to Star Wars themselves.
Create their own fantasy universe.
It's not that big of a deal that Holding and Rose are women, or are women that look different than other women in the Star Wars universe.
Like I said I'd rather people just own their racism and sexism than hide behind **** reasons and excuses.
