Disappointment with the Evolution of a Once-Captivating Game

This game was truly engaging in its early days, with a well-crafted universe, good balance, and regular events that kept players excited. For a long time, it was possible to play in free-to-play mode and still find real enjoyment.

However, things have changed. Today, achieving goals has become pay-to-win: if you want to succeed, you have to pay. The game now offers hundreds of purchasable items, including resources that accelerate progression (some of which make free-to-play mode completely uncompetitive) and items for temporary events that encourage even more spending.

Moreover, the game has become overly complex, with more than 20 internal currencies, most of which can either be purchased or earned through transactions. This shift has stripped the game of its original strategic appeal.

In summary, I’m deeply disappointed by the direction this game has taken.

    My feelings are the same here. Yes, swgoh is no longer that magic game that used to be. Im not against improvements, updates and new stuff, but this has overcome an insane p2w typical game with star wars  toons. I remember playing Runescape for PC until they ruined for microtransactions updates. Sadly, this game is condemned for the same way.

    What triggers my reaction is that now paying has become necessary even to achieve certain quest objectives.

    It’s not new to see newly released characters being required to complete specific events. However, seeing objectives like "activate the episode pass" as a prerequisite or even as a quest on its own is truly something new.

    I actually understand the need for a game to create reoccurring revenue. Almost every mobile game is doing it now. My biggest problem is with the implementation. I am told i am getting equivalent rewards as before from F2P and everyone analyzing it says thats true. However, it doesn't feel rewarding. In fact it feel like well here is another feat i can't do unless i pay. Most other monthly passes i have seen "including conquest pass" simply have a second tier of rewards that you get if you buy the pass but all feats or tasks are open to everyone. That scenario is very clear and obvious that it isn't stopping your progression so it feels normal. Adding to the frustration is the fact that i get pop ups showing my progression on feats i can't collect in because i haven't bought the pass. 

    Also another note, we were told they are going to make more things able to be simmed. Yes, this was in the future but it was to help reduce the amount of time required on menial tasks. However, now i run into random feats in the episode track like kill 10 enemies with Sabine. This is adding to the time-consuming menial task list. The Episode track feels more like a mini conquest where I'm going to constantly be concerned about completing random tasks. This is not fun nor enjoyable. This being required for 2 weeks with conquest is bad enough. Now i am required to worry about grindy feats all the time. 

    In conclusion, I understand what was trying to be done but it doesn't feel good to the players and they have just added to the time sink that is already there and complained about constantly.

    This isn’t meant to be a criticism but rather constructive feedback. I simply want to share my feeling that, today, there’s a much stronger push to pay compared to what it used to be, which I hadn’t felt before.

    If there’s a better place to share feedback with the creators than here, I’d be happy to know! Wink lmao

    But I believe this forum is precisely the right place to discuss and express our thoughts respectfully.

    The non-pay2win/non-pay2keepup aspect was the main reason I got into this game. I bought crystals and bundles because I was enjoying the game. Ever since the asinine fleet meta change I haven't spent a dime and refuse to unless something changes. It's been on a downward trend for a long time, but its reached a whole new level of awful. I even warned CG in a poll that happened about a year and a half ago, but greed is greed. I swear greed is the number one problem with humans. 

  • I still have my main account in a high-end guild, but a while back I created an alt, played it up to level 50, and then stopped spending energy so I can just play Galactic War once per day forever. Takes me back to simpler times, when GW was a challenge, but not a horrible one. It changes every day. There's only so much worse it can get b/c you're not in range of enemies gaining zetas. 

    I totally recognize that this isn't what most people want, but if you want that early game experience, you can still have it in GW. Just don't spend energy and don't collect the dailies that you complete and you won't gain XP (or, rather, you'll gain it very very slowly b/c some feats you can't help completing accidentally) and you can hang out in that innocent wonderland forever. 

    All that early stuff is still there. You just have to recognize what makes the game fun for you and make the choice about what you want to prioritize.

    There is no 'need' to increase revenue. The game could go free totally and necer take in another cent and still be in the black for several more years...easily. 

    I get they want to make money off it, but turning free stuff to paywall is a poor way of doing it, but it has been going on for years. Conquest originally cheaper in erergy and you didnt lose emergy on a loss.  That went away. Cq also was designed originally to test roster depth but it turned into a test of do you have all the latest toons. That at least was subtle. You dont get more in your face freed than than replacing challenge feats with getting the latest toon in 3 days and especially turning 9ne into buying the pass.  Nd i did both. It still comes across as a bully running in front of you flipping you a pair of birds. I dont care if it balances out in the end or not, it is the message it sends.

    And, to be clear, it has always been pay to win. Always. At day 1, if you can come in and spend thousands and max out a roster, it is pay to win. What the game needs is some merit or ability content. Something even for everyone.  Not sure how you do that though, and maybe you cant. But it would be nice if there were things people couldnt just buy in a matter of minutes and had to actually earn.

    I am totally agreeing with the OP. The game recently now is forcing people to buy or bye. Conquests, GCs etc now need the newer toons and although the episode track is massively misunderstood, if you dont pay get the 7/10 feats for each chapter. 

    My advice, dont buy the episode crap. Stop subscribing to the whales who USE YOUR money to be at the top. Im not saying spend or not spend but EA give no hoots about players, just profits.
