What matters is full guild participation, not individuals.
This pretty much sums it up right here. Actually doing your combat missions daily lets you turn a 60k squad into 400k+ contribution to an area. I contributed more points than quite a few people in my guild who have a total GP of a few hundred thousand or more higher than me just because I did my combat missions daily.
Additionally there is diminishing returns on growing your roster for this mode. What do you really need...like 3 solid squads and a few niche characters for specific missions? If you put on 50k worth of GP all going to toons on your combat squad and clearing more rounds because of it you see huge boosts in your contribution from one TB to the next. If you add 50k worth of GP all on toons that are getting dumped in platoons or simply just deployed anyhow contribution from one TB to the next don't grow as fast.
In other words someone might have a nice roster but if they can't be bothered to do their combat missions, or even to deploy some days, they aren't as much of an asset for TB as someone with a smaller roster who is a consistent contributor.
The only thing TB really changed from a guild dynamic is nobody cares if people just punch a 0 in a raid or don't even participate if your guild is wrecking heroics anyhow, but when you miss a star by a small amount and have people who couldn't even be bothered to enter a combat mission hit auto battle, at which point they don't even have to watch it, its pretty aggravating. People can't get carried through TB without hurting the rest of the guild like they can be raids.
