Empty defense on TW

I have an important question. As TW is getting worse and worse because of the matchmaking algorithm, some players are thinking about ignoring this event, just joining it but without deploying on defense or even playing any battle. So would we get the any rewards anyway?

    Our guild decided some time ago to just ignore the TW.
    We then left all fields empty (except for a couple people who stationed a handful teams).

    The result was:
    Everyone who just registered but didn't paticipate (station / fight) did not get a reward.
    Our opponents complained bitterly as some people there also didn't get rewards - those who didn't participate in their defense but didn't get a chance to fight.

    We figured that this is not a good way of handling it.
    But it's definitely a great way to annoy/troll/upset your opponents.

    You have to earn at least some banners. Either by deploying a single team or winning one battle on offense to be eligible for rewards. Doing nothing will earn you nothing.
