On the other hand, being less focused on fleet allows people to farm optimal squads without having to gear pilots. Including squads that can farm zeta mats in monthly events, such as Ewoks and Nightsisters. And since GA matches newer accounts with much older ones, there is no telling how many zetas your opponent might have anyway. My current opponent has less fleet GP than I do, but more zetaed g12 characters. Including Revan, CLS, and other heavy hitters that I haven't unlocked yet.
