Okay, so like I originally said, there are indeed other ways to farm.
What would be "terrible" about adjusting this occasional event so the rewards were a little more relevant to the players completing them? Other than from the perspective of other players who already had the characters at 7* and resented others getting there very slightly faster (maybe 15 shards once or twice per month)?
Rewards for other events have gotten adjusted over time, so arguing that "this is the way it was set up, it shouldn't ever change" doesn't hold water.
