How is the guild leader board calculated? How does it gauge your team?

I don't mean to be rude but could the guys who no longer wish to compete for rank just leave it alone? This thread has a place, the guild leaderboard is the only guild vs guild competition there is and whilst some don't respect it or wish to compete, others do and it would be very useful for those who do to actually find out how the rank system works.
