Yes this is correct, you cannot link 2 IOs accounts.
Figured. Do you know if the steps in the linked thread would work, or is that too outdated/wrong for my situation?
Second, is it possible to have a Game Center account (I think SWGOH is linked to Game Center, not the Apple ID directly) linked to multiple Apple ID's? That was one Guild Member's suggestion, which I think would work to keep my account if it's actually an option. I'm the only one who uses the Game Center account on the shared ID.
No, it doesn’t work. Game Center is tied to your Apple ID. Years ago you could have several Game Center IDs and switch between them. But since Apple tied all account related data and functionality to your unique Apple ID you can’t transfer the SWGOH account by yourself. There is no such thing as a Game Center account anymore. It is only an app that uses the Apple ID.
And how do you share that ID? Do you use the family sharing option? Or do different people use the same ID on their own devices? The best solution is to stop sharing the ID.
Edit: I tried that 4 months ago. And what I wrote above is what Apple customer service told me.
You can still switch between different Game Center accounts on iOS. That’s how I switch between my main and my alt. My primary Apple ID has my main and a second one has my alt. Switching accounts in Settings > Game Center doesn’t impact anything else on my phone.
