It's in their best interest for the AI to play dumb...and for everyone to know it. Think about it:
How do you gain ranks in arena? Offense (i.e. you have to attack)
Can you hold rank by doing nothing? Nope
So how do you move back up, once you've lost rank? Offense
How do you hold really high ranks just before payout? Refresh
How do you move up farther, if you dropped back or want a higher payout? Refresh
What's the only part of the game that costs crystals? Refresh.
See? ;)
If the AI WAS smart, you're team (if it was good) could hold rank without any of the above. You wouldn't "need" to attack - or refresh.
