I wouldn't put my money on HK47+R2 droid teams if they're fighting zMauls either.
JE only has 153 speed if I'm not mistaken.
SA has 151.
With the 20% TM boost from Maul, a 200 speed SA will go before a 250 speed JE / or in other words: with hardly mediocre mods SA will go first even if you could mod JE with +100 speed.
Even without SA, a decently modded Maul team will be going first with their Palpy/Nihilus/zSidious or whatever the team is running. Not only first to JE but also first to R2.
So...
JE will have his cooldowns increased. And possibly be stunned if there's a Palpatine. R2 may resist some debuffs if you stack onto his tough tenacity stat. But even if he resists to anything before the Nihilus, there's still a 50/50 chance.
JE will be entirely useless in this matchup. And, like as not, R2 can't burn them first turn.
Of course Maul will be going before any HK47/IG88/IG86 picks if JE doesn't buff them. Daze really screws them over. R2 can't cleanse DS allies either.
Besides, Droids are kind of dps heavy without dispels. If there's a Sithtrooper, he will soak it all up while the AOEs can't bring anyone down.

Getting rid of JE is quite necessary against Maul - unless Maul is modded really really badly and JE can go first. But it'll be no use. Daze and turn order will crush the squishies.

Your calculations are way off. If Jawa Engineer and Sith Assassin both stacked speed to hit exactly 200 speed in their character panel it would be a coin flip as to who goes first because you are not taking into account Jawa Engineer's unique, Crunch Time, that gives him 50 speed in a droid team.

If someone puts 100 speed on their Sith Assassin, it will go in basically 800/251 = 3,1572899 "ticks" for lack of a better way to put it. In order to tie her Jawa Engineer would need to stack 1000/3.1572899 - 203 = 110.75 or 111 speed in mods to go first. It isn't "Sith Assassin can beat Jawa Engineer if he has 100 speed and she has mediocre mods". No if they have equal mods, SIth Assassin will go first. If Jawa Engineer's are a LITTLE better, he will.

What kills droids about Zaul teams is Daze and crit immunity, it's not that Jawa Engineer is too slow. R2 absolutely makes Droids viable against Zaul... But you absolutely HAVE to have Jawa Engineer, R2, and B2.
