New Gear Artwork: Why no mention in Update Notes?

Was wondering if this was as intended or not considering it wasn't mentioned anywhere that I saw in the developer or update notes, as these things typically have been in the past. Personally, I'm not a fan... the change just seems to have made everything a bit darker and sometimes has made the text a touch harder to read. But not a huge deal either way, juts sort of curious.
