JinxZod has the right idea.
While I managed my time by literally changing my time zone to be both more convenient and not shared with any of my shardmates, another reasonable way to do that is to give rewards based on the highest rank you achieve after fighting a battle on that specific day. That way any hour can be your payout hour, and it can be different from day to day. If you happen to be first at payout, you can immediately start another battle, let it time out, and presto, you've ended a battle in first place and so now you have a full 24 hours off.
But if you need to play at a different time, you can, and you're not penalized because your kid has a soccer game or whatever.
There is a real problem with tying important rewards to being on your phone at a specific time of day every day, but the player-friendly thing is not to eliminate rewards, and it's not to devalue ships which require large investments. (Honestly would anyone invest in ships anymore if you couldn't get crystals out of it? The entire game mode would dry up.)
The player friendly thing to do is to reward your work, keep challenging you to get better, but allow you to knock down those challenges on your own schedule.
It's been suggested before and they haven't taken it up, but it is the right thing to do, so I'll keep hoping.
This idea (award prizes based on best rank in a 24 hour period instead of rank during the exact second the timer runs out) has been suggested so many times and it's such an obvious improvement that CG have to be aware of it. They haven't done it because they don't want to do it.
