No. They're canon. Any books, comics, TV, and Movies released after the Disney acquisition are canon. The only exception being anything Lego (like the freemaker adventures, for instance). A "real" fan would know this, and would have been watching Rebels. The first season is pretty kid oriented (especially the first half I had to force myself to keep watching), but by about midway thru the 2nd, it starts getting dark. By the season 2 finale, it's really dark.
