There's never been balance. There's always a meta squad dominating arena. I'm guessing it's just not a squad you invested in this time? From Zaul, to CLS, to NS (or JTR), to zEP w/ Sion, to Traya, to Revan. It's all the same story. Mostly the meta squad with a few counter squads mixed in that win on offense but get crushed on defense.
