What else can he do? He's desperate reaching down to the living waters under the mines. And R5 was the only option available. And it comes with a recommendation.
it just felt too fast, like I would have thought he would say no to r5, try something else and do some weird "quest" that fails (like finding IG11 original repair spot/base, whatever he would go to between missions before for repairs if he did), THEN after that either going back for R5 or just trying to go without a droid first, and come back after that for it.
just something more then seemly instantly giving into a using a random droid that was recommended despite him always saying "no droids" "I don't trust them" ect
