I think everyone who has been in this game for a while would have expected this. Every time new content is released then guilds want to complete it so they drop those who aren't well geared or leveled yet. And, those players that are in guilds that can't complete it or get far that are very well-geared may look for stronger guilds.
Personally, I think it is fine this way. It's good to find guilds with players around your level. Work your way up together as a guild.
