Not sure if this was directed at me? If it was, I can tell you that most of my former guild mates are courteous enough to let me know when they're leaving and I usually have a chat with them on discord or in game chat. I'm always very interested to know why people leave in case it's something that I could have avoided by managing things differently. Sometimes they come back after a break.
I'm not sure what you might be referring to as an overstatement. Also never made any claim that the game was dying - I don't believe it is and I find it pretty funny when people say that.
The game absolutely takes more time now than it used to though. I'm not sure how anyone can claim otherwise, and it's more true the longer you've been playing. Anyone that was around pre-conquest can tell you that alone accounts for significant additional screen time. GAC also used to be optional - if you want crystals, it's no longer optional. The switch back to 24 hour phases in RotE means playing that game mode daily where in Geo it was once every two days. Adding R9 mats to TW made TW more important and it became mandatory in some guilds after that (mine included), so that's yet more time that many people otherwise might have not been spending in the game.
Sure, you can buy all of those things, but if you want to stay even semi-competitive and/or grow your roster with minimal spending, you're absolutely going to have to spend more time in the game than you used to.
