It used to be, but players started abusing this. They would have one person clear, and everyone else post zero. Then everyone in the guild gets second place rewards. So typically, guilds will have a 0 zero damage period, so that everyone gets on the board, and then a time when the raid opens. After that, if you want better rewards, show up on time.
In the end, I wouldn't complain about getting 6th in a pit raid. Those are still really good rewards.
