What is with the Pathetic Drop Rates in this game

Drop rate on old ben is decent, should get about 4-6 shards for every 100 crystal. 60 dollars would get you about 8k crystals.
3 refreshes a day plus reoccurring energy should get about 15 or more per day.
100% impossible to only get 12 shards.

I know a lot of people exaggerate on the internet, but try to not go so far as to be 100% unbelievable. I'd believe if you hit 12 shards in one day but you didn't blow nearly 8000 crystals on just 12 shards.
