Free players can turn into spenders if they're hooked in, and stay around. Make soul crushingly long grinds, and they quit. And staying ahead of the free players is part of why spenders spend. To many anti-F2P changes actually keeps spenders from feeling pressure to stay ahead. This by itself is not going to kill off F2P, but I think it's a bad precedent. It's a kick in the kittens to any player not spending 5-6 figures, and a step in the wrong direction that I hope is reconsidered.
The thing is, between the f2p people and the spenders, that actual gap in time between when the spenders start to get MT and when the f2p start to get him isn't going to be all that much different than the gap between a spender panic farming for a 7 star now type character and a f2p having to wait 2-3 rotations of the event to 7 star. Take Thrawn for example...plenty of people who didn't even have enough Phoenix to try the first event missed out on round two, and will have to wait til round 3...how many months wait is that for the to get Thrawn vs people who got him the first time around?
The only difference with MT is that we have pretty much a 6 month period added in where whales will get 7 star and f2p/dolphins most likely won't, unless you were sitting on a lot of farmed crystals for a rainy day and went all in.
Its like I've been saying that people have just been replying "You salty about CLS." For newer players the MT farm isn't any worse, and in some ways, its actually better than the last several event characters that were introduced.
Let's just take BB8 for example since people think my post is CLS salt...you need FO for this event. FO isn't exactly a meta squad right in arena right now, not really a top squad for raids, and up until recently you had 2 hard only farms for FOTP and FOST, and when you finally unlock BB8 he has absolutely no synergy with the FO squad you needed to unlock him. Basically if you started playing the game today and you want to be competitive and efficient with your farming, FO isn't high up on your priority list at all. So basically for a green player to get BB8 right now, you are looking at several months of farming/gearing a FO squad, potentially a several month wait for the BB8 event to come around depending on your timing, and from there several more months of farming/gearing a squad to use BB8 in just to make him useful.
In other words if it takes me a year to get MT with a monthly refresh, its just not a big deal for me. I consider the cost of a monthly refresh less than the cost of having to farm/gear a 0 synergy squad to unlock a character to use in a completely different squad, and I simply consider 6 months to a year as par for the course of what a lot of the legendary toons will take me to unlock. The only real change to this release style I see is like I've been saying...its not a gimme for veteran players. It requires pretty much the same time/investment for a veteran player to get MT as a newer player starting from release date forward, where as past events gave a huge advantage to older players just because they were playing longer.
Considering the game has to be monetized to continue to run, I think this is brilliant. Previous events were basically "If you are an old timer here is a gimme...if not...panic farm and spend a ton of money or wait many months to get this toon." Now whales can panic farm and spend a ton of money if they want it right now, moderate spenders can get it with a moderate time frame(about the same as what previous legendary events would have taken newer players to accomplish), f2p who prioritize will take a little longer than that, and f2p players who just feel entitled and want to put minimal resources into getting MT because the last several legendary characters required 0 effort when the requirements were squads they already had are in this thread crying "OMG TWO YEAR FARM??!" In other words they realigned the release cadence on MT/Wicket to favor people who spend money and/or prioritize in game farming where as previous events tended to just favor people who have played longer. High five devs...you hit a grand slam on this one!
That was a whole lot of words to not say anything significant. Your comparison to other legendary/long farms are completely dishonest. Nearly 2 and a half years is totally unprecedented for this game. Even a person with some resources who is willing to prioritize may take double, triple or more the time that any legendary event has ever taken. There is not a single legendary event that you can't build the team needed to complete it totally from scratch, and completely free from the first time it pops up, until it returns. Even making NS a priority won't shorten the 28 month grind. Only money will. Or crystals which most players don't make enough of to spend on something that won't give them the benefit they seek for over a year.
But that kind of nonsense rant totally devoid of reason shouldn't surprise me now that I see you drop the "E" word. You refuse to acknowledge any viewpoint but your own, or that there are valid problems rooted in facts. Not everyone who sees a problem is a spoiled brats crying until they instantly get their way. I don't want to be handed anything, and I do want paying players to see a benefit to their spending. But the amount of time/work to get a character that is reasonable to give spenders an advantage, but not too long to alienate players is a totally reasonable debate. Your post was not to provide factual support for your viewpoint that the event is good. It's just to browbeat people who see problems with it.
And I can definitely see benefits to the event. I like the idea of it. The structure is sound. It's a farming avenue not sucking up all my regular/cantina energy. That's great. I just personally think that 1 year is plenty of time. I've already fought a 7*/gear 11 MT in arena. A year for him to have that over a free player, or 6 months over a player willing to spend 10 thousand crystals refreshing it every time is reasonable. 28 months seems absurd to many. This will anger people, and make some quit.
