That's ten days first place in squad arena. And no, you don't need to be a whale to achieve that.
If you make good use of 5.000 crystals they can provide a bunch to your roster, yes. But getting a full toon for the same price is a way better deal unless you already have that toon. It's like everywhere in the game, RNG can be your friend or rip you apart.
