OP in the end the choice is up to you. Depending on how well you do in arena..you could go for gear, but if your like me and don't want to miss out on legendary events go yoda and wampa.
Reason I say yoda and wampa is because those 2 toons were both part of Luke's journey in TESB and RotJ. I just 6* hermit yoda and took him to G11. Soon as he is 7* I'm working on wampa asap. Of course this is all speculation at the moment, but so far farming as many toons to 7* as I possibly can hasn't failed me yet and I haven't missed out on a single event since the first time yoda was released.
Gear is easier to get in the game than shards is. I always farm shards first and worry about gear later. My thinking is this...when an event drops it normally lasts 7 day. In 7 days it's way more easier to take a toon to G11 because there are many ways to get gear now. Trying to get a toon from 5*,6* to 7* is a lot more of a pain and a panic farm.
Shards>gear in my opinion.
