I did hoard on my first and main account. I did research before starting the game so that I could get a great start. Yes it did get boring after awhile but I am glad I did it because it is great being at the top of my arena. The extra crystals help you advance even quicker.
But yeah, you do need patience to hoard that long. Just find something else to distract you for that month :)
