Bored of the Rancor raid? Try playing "450"!

Our guild is literally one or two weeks away from running Tank Heroic raids (our last attempt came up just short) and of course we've been running T7 Rancors for a long time -- long enough that several of us have OG Han 7-starred.

As a guild we've made the decision to curb the damage (500K max) dealt by those of us lucky enough to have finished Han, so that lower-level members get to place higher and finish him sooner. This is great for the guild as a whole, but it does get a bit boring for those who have "stepped down".

I imagine there are tons of guilds in our situation -- T7 free-for-alls are over in minutes, and once you have Han finished the raid definitely loses its draw.

But out of nowhere this week we kind of just invented this side game that we call "450" to keep things a little more interesting for those of us under the 500K cap. How does it work? Here are the rules:

  • Only those who have Han finished (and hence are capped at 500K damage) are eligible to play
  • Participation is entirely voluntary (although non-participants are still curbed at 500K of course)
  • At Free-For-All time (we use a 24-hour 0-damage registration period, then FFA) the goal is to score as close to 450K damage overall, without going over. The closest score wins!
  • At the end of the raid, the winner gets to request a piece of raid gear, and the 5 players who have overshot by the widest margin have to donate (it's 5 players because purple gear requests top out at 5 pieces)
  • If fewer than 5 people have overshot, those who are under by the widest margin (i.e. furthest from 450K) also donate
  • Requested gear must be farmable from a LS/DS node to ensure donations can be fulfilled

It's a simple game, but if like us your FFAs go quickly you'll find it's quite difficult to score without going over before the raid is finished, so it's definitely a challenge! And the friendly competition keeps things fresh for those people who have otherwise no challenge left in the Rancor raid.

It's entirely possible some other guilds do something similar, but this came to us organically and it's been such a success that we thought we'd share with the community.

Give it a try! I'm sure you'll enjoy it :)

    • That sounds like fun. We keep 7* Han owners out of the top 10 as well. We like to play the highest score with a 3 man team game.
    • Our guild runs a challenge for those with 7* Han. It usually forces your squad and limits your damage. Winner chooses the next challenge.

For instance, we have recently had "ground pounders" only using toons that are not crew for ships. Also "no leaders" and "no synergy" challenges.
Most damage limits range between 200k and 400k.

If I ever win I'm going with "max sabers" maximizing the number of light sabers (GG, Savage, Maul, Ahsoka, Sidious, Asajj, JKG) or "genetic Skywalkers".

I'm looking forward to max sabers!!!

Highest score with 3 looks good too
    • What if no people over shot and you have 0. Do you have to donate? After all, you didn't attack.

Playing 450 is voluntary. So the only people who have to donate are those who choose to play. If nobody goes over, then it's the 5 people who played and are farthest from 450.
