I am also having difficulty with the tier 4 capital ship challenges. I am level 82 now and the GP of the ships I am attempting with are about 115k. my top 3 ships for any of the challenges have gear 8-10 pilots. If I get extremely lucky I can manage to destroy one of the enemy ships before I get completely obliterated. They usually destroy one of my ships in the first turn.
