No. Game balance is not universal. Every team has it's own metrics and goals. Every single one. WoW balances differently than LoL, which balances differently than Destiny, and so on and so forth. The fact that you think it is universal is so off base it's laughable.
Game balance philosophy is universal. How it's executed is different. The fact that you cannot distinguish the two is, as you say, laughable.
It's your opinion that their design philosophy is ideal, which you then state as fact. Furthermore, the fact that you're recognizing here that there are in fact different philosophies at play belies your first point. Also, the contention that their game balance is the reason their revenue is higher is so reductive it's shocking. I would contend that it probably has more to due with the platform, or time-in-game metrics, but that prevents your overly reductive reasoning from applying....
Their design philosophy is ideal though, you can loop arguing about opinions all you want. Did you actually read or you looking for any excuse to attack? Seriously, check this out:
"Data matters, but it’s only one part of the equation. Believe it or not, we play League of Legends too. We feel it just as quickly as you when Skarner is in every game and, more importantly, winning every game. We want a fun and balanced game not just because it’s our job but because we’re players. We acknowledge we’re human and susceptible to a plethora of cognitive biases. That’s exactly why we leverage information from all angles. Ultimately, everything we do is an effort to make League of Legends the most fun it can be. In the next dev blog, Jag will discuss how we examine champion balance from a design perspective."
Nice sidestep. BTW the origional definition of RPG is right in the title. There's no role-playing here. Just because the industry definition has expanded to include game mechanics doesn't change that there's no RP in this game. Furthermore, if you want to divert from the topic at hand I could just as easily contend that since you once said on this forum that facts are subjective, nothing you say is valid.
Oh but context matters, and in the context you used it, your knowledge of RPG mechanics were non existent. You remember that post? Don't make me go through digging it up, it was hard to tell if it was a troll or sheer ignorance. Also I said your evidence is subjective, if we want to go back that far; and in that specific case, it is and I gave you an example that to this day you can't answer. You're still salty about those old threads I see. That's somewhat funny.
Additionally, I did discuss why the numbers were what they were. Triple Cleanse. It's right there in my post. Where I also made the contention that the other three members of that team were just as impactful as Chaze. Stop ignoring things that don't fit your narrative. You do it all the time.
The other members hinge on Chaze and their numbers are skewed from Chaze's presence. Not ignored, just assumed you have some sort of game balance and game balance metric reading knowledge. You don't.
Since you have nothing more to say I'll just reiterate since "3" actually fails to respond to this. The team you contend has an ideal design philosophy does not nerf based on popularity. So, again, per my original post, even if usage statistics indicated they are over used and trending up (they indicate neither) your own design philosophy indicates that's not reason enough to nerf.
Of course you shouldn't nerf based on popularity. That's part of the point. You nerf or buff based on factors. In the case of Chaze, we look at why they are performing the way they are, why are they consistently being used, how do they affect other character statistics, what ranking gap are they being used to effectively etc. If you simply answer these factors alone (there are more), logically, neutrally, you'll discover Chaze isn't balanced. It's no longer just an opinion, there's data and logic to support this.
Again, 3 has nothing to do with my analysis or reading given I specifically said in my post why the metrics "exist the way it exists." You simply have nothing else of relevance to say.
Sure it does, you're just letting your emotions get the better of you.
If you wanna come in here and tell everyone it's your opinion that they're overtuned, fine (though again, you should have a problem with GK too if that's your position). But don't try to give facts that aren't true (their usage rate) and don't come in and present your opinion as fact and then get all antagonistic and personal ("You don't even know what an RPG is") when someone pushes back.
Except it's no longer my opinion. There's data and logic to support this. You can continue making this personal / about me, or you can open your eyes to see, unbiased, and learn more about games, mechanics and balance (which is universal)
Your choice.
