No worries, we all did a whole bunch of things wrong when we were trying to get past 5E! We did so many things wrong that eventually we did something right :) .
The one thing I'd press you on, though, is that it IS logic. It's the nature of experimentation--you try a lot of things that don't work until you find the thing that DOES work.
