@xNine - As we've wound down a little I'm happy to discuss it a bit more rationally. But you're still quoting stats and opinions. If stats were the answer, then a higher powered squad would always trump a lower one. We all know that's not the case. Actual hard evidence and experience will prove a point much better than stats.
I disagree that any toon can be made to work. If that were the case, we'd see a lot more variety in the top 10. We're at a strange point in the meta shift as there's clearly become those who have... and those who have not. The 'haves' are lording it up with Rogue One characters and the 'have nots' are scrambling to find a solution to them.
I have had Grievous for about 9 months. He has been in my Arena team in all that time - I was ready with gear and ability mats as soon as he dropped. At 4* he clearly wasn't the bad boy of the bunch but his kit played an important role in the overall droid synergy. Since then, we've had JE, Nebit, mods and a few more droids. I have always found a place for him.
It is indeed true that more recent releases are much easier to accommodate due to the inevitable power creep. Chaze is an example of terrible design that delivers an entire team's utility in two toons. It's lazy. A big part of why I shout down calls for buffs and nerfs is that this inherent laziness winds me up. Too many players run straight to the devs asking for a nerf rather than bothering themselves and spending time trying to figure out a game plan to beat a particular toon/team/pair.
Likewise, I hold equal disregard for anyone who hasn't put the time in to find a way past a toon's shortfalls. Back in the day everyone said IG100 was one of the most useless toons in the game. I have lost count of the amount of times I had to debunk that assumption but over time it worked. I have about 20 videos of matches where IG100 completely saves the day. He's no longer seen as a bottom tier toon.
If people want to fall in with the cool kids and go and make another bland meta, then let them be sheep. It's their fun and they can have it however they want. As a droid player and one of the first to demonstrate both Grievous and K-2SO's potential, I pride myself on having walked the path less trodden. I am also brutally aware that this stubbornness and the sheer amount of time and effort it took to raise him will tint my perspective. In short, I want him to work, I want him to have been worth it. And if I hadn't lived in the top 10 for the last seven months, it would be a very valid counter-argument.
What grinds my gears the most is when people champion a cause they're not even involved in. In this instance it's a whole load of voices speaking on my behalf. It's hard to be heard in a crowd like that. It's like being one of 10 soldiers in a crowd of 1000 civilians who are calling for better pay for the army... I speak from experience (and I think the pay's great)
