GK/R2 liabilities in this meta?

I recently switched to titans from empire after growing bored of mirror matches and I've been doing well enough to hold my rank in the top 50, but it feels like GK and R2 are just placeholders. My lineup is zCLS (ibat) zR2 (NC) zHan, Thrawn and GK.

The problem with GK is all the TM the enemy gains when using the negotiator, so it can really only be used in VERY rare circumstances. His basic attack is the typical wet noodle that comes with being a Jedi and lead the charge is another rare circumstance ability due to all the Sion and TFP that make buffing difficult.

R2 just feels like a stat booster. I haven't put a zeta on combat analysis for the same reason I don't use the negotiator often, it could be more damaging than beneficial. Smoke screen is still a great ability but with all these friggin TFP running around I find it hard to use often, although I've been considering speeding him up enough to get it off before TFP has a turn. His stun is great but it feels like it never sticks when I NEED it to stick! I know I should add more potency but I just don't have enough mods to be picky with secondary stats other than speed. Improvise is a good ability but I usually need a stun more.

So, both are amazing characters without a doubt, but in this meta are they just the placeholders I feel like they are? I'm thinking I would do MUCH better with OB as my tank, being able to taunt on command, having an aoe ability block and giving mass buffs on death sounds pretty juicy!

And how about R2? Am I getting as much from him as I would from say, Ezra? Leia? A secondary tank?

I’m running GK lead, Zarris, GMY, HY, and CLS.

Yeah I've actually heard that Zarriss/GK does pretty well in this meta.

So I ended up swapping out GK for zOB and the difference has been amazing. I put a zeta on his unique so even if the buffs don't stick it'll still give a fight changing 50% health and protection heal and the 25% TM gain. Plus mind tricks is just amazing, like a previous poster mentioned it can completely derail the EP turn meter train!
  • I find GK useless in this meta. He is always stunned, ability blocked, shocked etc. He usually gets a taunt off before he is obliterated. That’s it.

Really though, Jedi vs this meta isn’t going to get you very far. That being said I haven’t tested a reworked GMY lead so I’m not sure if he brings more to the table. The offense and speed up from Old Ben dying is nice but half of your toons will probably be shocked vs Empire.
  • What about wiggs?? Right after vader aoe ur biggs will be able to triple shot whatever u want, as well as CLS who will get 100% TM too due to all ur party being damaged by vader xD

So after vader u would have 4 hits to kill EP or wathever... Unless vader saber trow gives 100% TM to any other enemy...

U could also try CLS, han, trawn, nihilus, sion... This way after vader aoe ur DN could reduce enemy CDs xD

I've run Titans for going on nine months in a 20 month old shard. It can still climb effectively, but like most other things that don't rhyme with Playa, gets targeted frequently. And it gets stale pretty quickly as well - Stun Vader with Han, Buff Immunity on Thrawn with CLS, Stun EP with R2, Fracture whoever didn't get debuffed or Sion. Watch Nihilus drain force, get a group counter. Later, rinse, repeat. The variety in the match is determined by which debuffs stick or don't.

I got to test out my zzGMY, zHoda, GK, Ezra (all G12) and Aayla (currently G10) this TW against a fully zeta'd (but not super fast) non-Traya nightmare squad (Thrawn as the fifth) and it was the most fun I've had playing this game in awhile. I've dropped my time commitment to the game since ships 2.0 sucked all of the enjoyment out of it, but I've been strongly considering switching over to this team in arena. I generally drop from 20s to 50s - don't think it would be much different.
  • Agreed with BoogieMan. I switched back to my Zeta'd Old Ben once the zPalp meta had solidified. His Mind Tricks is perfect for derailing all of those Empire/Sith AoE special attacks, and he can taunt right through a Fracture. As the OP suggested, General Kenobi had become a bit of a liability, but Old Ben was super reliable.

Once I transitioned to a JTR lead, I brought General Kenobi back to the lineup, but for "Titans" I agree that OId Ben is the way to go.

I’m running GK lead, Zarris, GMY, HY, and CLS. I beat most every team with almost full health and protection, including nightmare, titans, non-acolyte NS squads, and JTR. I typically climb to around rank 50 and fall to about 100 over 24 hours, which is better than my own KRU, zEP, CLS, or NS squads. I don’t have “god mods,” and I think all the speed I have on HY and GMY are making the difference
