You haven't lost anything, I don't understand why you would want a refund. You still have to level the toons to make them more powerful. But now your toons will be more powerful as you level them with more stars.
Maybe you should play a game more and learn the basics before spending money on it so you have a better understanding of what exactly you are getting.
