Hyoda and protection up regen with Bastila lead

I've heard several reports of HY being able to do this with his special, despite how it seems it should work. Can anyone confirm this, and that it's not a bug? Just wondering if it's worth it to Zeta ...

Both of his zetas are really strong in HSTR. I've seen reports that it also replenishes the bonus protection, but I don't use Bastila lead in HSTR so I can't say I've personally seen the behavior.
