I'll save you some time, quit droids now.
I'm not one of those people who are extremely butt hurt because droids and poe made me cry a year ago. I'm saying this as a droid user.
The game has expanded and likely will continue to do so, but Droids are far too narrow of a group.
They have no ships, no zeta, their event nets a single jawa shard, are mediocre at raiding, and they'll only get you between arena rank 50-20 at best near end game.
I'm not going to tell you to chase a meta, but it's best to get characters that can compete in multiple facets of the game.
