As F2P, resources are limited. Gearing characters you'll eventually replace can really harm your progress. Plus, Aayla has one of the better leadership abilities for Jedi in AAT p1.
Mace is more likely to receive an rework than Kit, sooo many people are asking for it on the forums. Plus, he's a fleet commander.
Plo Koon is right around the same farming node as Kit and has a great ship for fleet battles (esp under Mace). I'd work on him or IGD as he also has good utility in the AAT raids.
