So a question for some advise from veteran players. This is not a rant or angry, it is written totally asking advise. If you had to start from scratch what would your focus be. Players who started...

Long-time mostly p2p player here. These days, if you want to compete and see bigger success, it's often helpful to think in terms of squads rather than individual characters. Somebody mentioned the Phoenix squad, and they're right, that's a great team to have. IMO, it's better to have a full Phoenix squad at G7 than a single toon at G11/12.
The trick, of course, is knowing which squads to go after. But with Episode 8 coming, you know there's going to be an explosion of Resistance and First Order content coming out. So it's not a bad idea to farm there. zFinn is especially powerful these days. The FO is pretty powerful and some of those characters are reasonably quick to farm. (I use my maxed-out, multi-zeta FO squad in Arena and they do great. I'm top 50 on an old established shard).
But yeah, I suggest choosing a specific team and try raising them methodically together as best you can. Get them all to gear 6. Then get them all to gear 7. Try to star them at the same rate if you can.
