I can't speak from personal experience because I don't keep track of stuff like that (it doesn't really change anything imo, you just need to farm until you're done), but from the maths:
You need 280 shards from 3* to 7*. The drop rate is 1/3 on average, which means you should expect to need 840 attempts at a node. At 5 sims a day that's 168 days; at the current 8 sims a day that's 105 days.
