Are ewoks useful in GA / TW? Because I want to invest in them for 3PO but I also have some other characters to upgrade.

Ill be the devil's advocate here and say it's all about priorities.
Sure, the ewok team is superb, both a nice defense team and a FO counter on offense.
But it all depends on what you got, your GP and what the ewoks in your roster are like right now.
What I mean is, it's probably a better idea to get your traya led,jtr led, ns, revan, dr teams ready before spending precious time and resources on ewoks. it's also okay to work in parallel, but again, this is all a matter of resource management.
Bottom line, I wouldn't be focusing on them unless they are next in priority (or in the next N teams, if you work in parallel. I'm currently finishing off my traya, ns and trooper teams simultaniously)
