My Roster Review: Emperor Palpatine

The Emperor of the Galactic Empire has arrived in the Galaxy of Heroes! Upon meeting his demise at the hands of the Rebel Alliance, you will unlock the shards required to add him to your collection!

The event ends tomorrow, and if you were lucky enough to unlock him during his "Extremely Rare" event but were hesitant about leveling him up, giving him your hard earned gear, and using him as a member of your core squad, watch My Roster Review of Emperor Palpatine and witness the power of this fully armed and operational character!

Emperor Palpatine is worth every piece of gear, credit, and training droid. He only requires Mk 1 and 2 droids to be incredibly effective in Galactic War and with slightly better mods can be a member of a VERY powerful Arena Squad. His gear is easy for a Free to Play to acquire and his abilities are useful in every aspect of the game.

His exclusive debuff, "Shock" is a blend of Buff Immunity, Healing Immunity, and Turn Meter Gain Block. With lower tier mods and gear his potency can reach 85%+ at gear max (I'm very close), and that's even before applying his leader skill 32% potency. With good mods, you can get the Emperor over 100% potency before his 32% leader skill.

If you didn't get the Emperor this time around, begin prepping your Rebels for your next chance to defeat the Emperor and claim his shards!

  • I believe the only time I've ever lost in arena and not even defeated a single enemy was yesterday. First time facing The Emperor. Even with a weak supporting cast, (Vader, Savage, Rey and RG) I got completely recked. It was ugly. He stunned my entire team at one time. I got him low on health, but he healed back to 100% while giving everyone else offense up.

People on this forum HATE when someone calls a character over powered. But Emp is exactly that. I can't believe the devs thought he was a balanced character. He's by far the single most broken thing I've seen in this game yet.

I know I'm going to be called a 'noob' and told to "git gud" by people who use this character. But Emp is game changingly unbalanced.

My first experience with the Emperor was the opposite, I actually killed him outright in one turn. I got a good crit first turn with Rey's Leverage and got a Phasma assist that landed the killing blow. It's possible to defeat teams with him, but it requires certain team comps.
  • The emperor is one of the few toons available for f2p that could potentially neutralise difficult p2p combos, such as dangerzone and b2 teams.

His greatest assets are his mass stun and shock debuff, and he is potent enough with low level mods to enable weaker teams to go toe to toe against stronger teams with better mods.

Howver, his is biggest weakness is frailty and very slow speed, making him subject to being taken out before he moves.

Of course, if your opponent speeds him up enough to make him get the first turn, or act early in the turn order (like with +80 speed from mods, +/- tarkins's 28 speed), you will most likely lose the battle because of the mass stun. Then again, if your opponent can field +80 speed from mods, any team he or she has will be crushingly difficult to defeat anyway. At least with my own EP I might stand a chance if the dice rolls right.
  • Emperor fits perfectly into my rebel squad.
Im running myself AA g9, lando g10, sthan g10, hrscout g10, emperor g9

Always starting the game with tactical genius on emperor aoe stun and shocking right after Enemy tank.
Hrscout helps alot with extra turn meter for the whole team as my emperor only got 170 speed atm and acts as a back up stunner (55% stun on his special).
Sthan got 70% potency and running at 170 speed under ackbar he rly steals alot of enemy TM
  • @Sungsta Good point on the mods, if your opponent can field +80 speed through mods, you're probably going to get screwed by whatever team you face. I hadn't considered Tarkin as a leader for an EP team. With his Offense/Speed Down ability, he can also improve EP's survivability, unfortunately that's after the entire enemy team has likely gone first since Tarkin himself is slow, even with his leader ability improving that defect considerably.

@Saritoss That's a good squad! Essentially trading out my recommendation for a Lando lead for the higher speed bonus of AA with the added benefit of Tactical Genius to get that extra shock debuff in place. I've got a Gear 9 AA, Gear 9 Lando, Gear 11 ST Han, and unfortunately my HRScout is only Gear 8, but I'm very close to Gear 10 EP, so I might give that team a shot in Arenas! I think I'll maybe use Rey (gear max) or Phasma for the extra TM up (also gear max) in place of HRScout. My ST Han's Potency is around yours, and he's kicking ass in my current Arena squad!

I think one of the philosophies of character development is that everyone has a counter. In the case of Emperor Palpatine, that would be Yoda. If he uses Battle Meditation first, then you get two turns to take out Palpatine. Now, I take it a step further by having an IGD led Jedi team. Usually, a battle will go like this: Yoda uses Battle Meditation, some other characters attack, Emperor Palpatine uses his AOE and my Jedi counter, taking out his protection. Some other characters attack, then QGJ uses harmonious assault, and the Emperor is done for.

So, not every team will be able to beat Palpatine, but there are teams that make him very easy to defeat. In fact, even though I have an all-Jedi team, I look forward to teams that have Palpatine because it is an easy kill for me.

On the flip side, I'm not sure what you run in the arena, but, I'm sure there are teams that struggle to beat you and avoid fighting you in the arena.
  • @Mist_Passiert
Depends what you going against. If there is to much counter RG fits as the fifth amazing (clones, jedi)

  • @Saritoss I do enjoy running ST Han with RG. I need to get my RG up to gear 10. He's Gear 9 and the weak link in my team. I'll have to play around with my arena a little bit.

If you think EP is overpowered, then you clearly dont have him.

    Just stun him.

    He's squishy.

All the same counters to "Rey is not OP" apply to Emperor.
