New-ish server - How to counter Palp/Vader domination...

Hi, I’m on a new server....only one player in top 10 has gold rings.
The top 40 is mainly Palps lead with Vader teams....a couple of whales with JTR/CLS
I’m usually around 95 to 160 with a Omega’d Phoenix team.
(I’ve been working on for Thrawn..)
I’ve also got Wiggs, Ackbar, Lando, Boba, Cad, QGJ, Teebo at 7* + around G8
And Rex, Fives, Vader, Palps, TFP, RG, Tarkin at 6* (most nearly at 7*)

What’s my best bet for a counter to all these Palps/Vader teams? Should I just complete Tarkin/TFP/Vader and unlock 7* Thrawn and join them?
Or is there something else (maybe using Rex or Teebo) To counter them?

Help

Rex is probably your best option for lead. Get tenacity up as quickly as you can, and EP should crumble. Also, all those AOEs should make your TM run wild.
As for other toons, Wiggs can do great. Enemy Vader goes first, Biggs answers with a triple shot. ST Han can be your taunter - not the best choice in this team, but not the worst either. For 5th, I'd recommend either Ackbar (additional cleanse + heal), EP (mass stun can always be helpful), or Thrawn (you can never go won't with him. If you don't have him now, you will very soon).
This will only work on offense, though. Rex AI doesn't hold up against a determined EP.
And there's always the option to join them. I don't believe in meta chasing - I used to run EP before the reworks - but it can help, if you can keep up.
You can also invest in some Pheonix zetas. They're a solid team that can do some work.

Thank you, when you say STH is not the ideal taunter....is there a better choice I could start farming (I may already have unlocked at 4/5* for all I know!)? I’m going to be farming Old Ben after TFP....how about him?

So Rex, Wiggs, Old Ben and Ackbar maybe?
  • I wouldn't run this in high end arena, but with what you have and what your shard sounds like, I'd run:
Rex (l), Royal Guard, STH, Fives, and QGJ.
Lots of control, stuns and slows, good defense, a buff wipe, lots of tm gain, especially for Rex and Fives and some tm removal.

I'd be running 2 tanks just because neither one of them will last long on their own. Tanks need to be very well geared to be a wall with any sort of longevity.

There are very few tanks that are worth much in end game arena.
Auto taunting tanks are the best in general: Kenobi, Sion, Sith Trooper, Holdo, Zombie, KRU, etc.
The more common the condition that triggers the taunt, the better the tank.
Next up you have the perma-taunters, The tanks that activate their taunt, and it has a duration that matches the cooldown:
ShoreTrooper, Hoth Rebel Soldier, Chief Nebit. What's also notable about these 3 tanks is that they are all self healing as well, shoretrooper actually has a group heal.

Then there are the gimmick tanks:
Scaraf Rebel Pathfinder, K2S0, Old Ben, STH, Sun Fac, etc.

The order I listed them in is pretty much the order of relevance. You want an auto taunter if at all possible. If not you want a perma taunter. Barring both of those, go with the gimmick.

Based on group composition, sometimes that order will alter a little bit. If I am running Droids, Chief Nebit is going to be more appealing to me than most of the tanks I listed as auto taunters. GK is still at the top of the list though. I'f I'm running Wedge led Rebels against the tank, I would probably prefer STH since I only need a taunt for the short while the tank isn't toppled, and he'll help me topple it faster.

So that's basically the size of how to determine what tank to run anyway. Figure out what the highest "rank" of taunter you can get that best fits the synergy of your composition goal is and work towards that.

Teebo leads randomly stealth team members and Teebo himself is good at reducing turn meter
  • When you get Thrawn, his leader kills the Vader lead-off force crush becuase your whoel team gets to 100% TM...Thrawn / EP / TFP are a great 3 to run in there against EP leads with DV...

Are yo ufarming death trooper? Also - if the EP teams you are facing have zeta Sion than Magmatrooper is great vs. Sion. If you are farming DT, I'd say run Thrawn lead, EP, DT, TFP and RG / Tarkin and you can get wins at a high rate...defense won't be great though as Thrawn lead the AI stinks using it.

ST Han will give your team TM, which might cause your team to lose tenacity up. Usually, he's great, not not here.
Old Ben is a great option, but you need to start by focusing fire on EP - each turn he'll take, Ben will lose 40% max health, before he starts attacking.
  • Thrawn lead tim directly counters palp teams. Get vader, palp, DT/tarkin/tfp and shore to follow. Alternatively vader, tfp, palp, tarkin also work under Thrawn, without a tank, but is better on offense.

That's not likely. Rex lead and abilities are also giving tm like mad, but extra to Rex. This means he goes more than everyone else on the team. With the prevalence of tm gain, Rex should go more than often enough to keep tenacity up on most everyone.
