I run droids with Poggle, and he's definitely an asset to almost any team. That said, on my server I never see him as lead. The damage bonus from him as leader is good, but the turn meter manipulation from HK with the speed boost from Pog's buff is way more versatile than straight attack power. I do use him as leader in some PvE missions to plow through tougher opponents.
In conclusion, it's not a bad idea, but there are definitely better ways to compose a team giving you more options for winning when things don't always go your way.
I was thinking of HK as well but unfortunately he's still at 4* for the moment. What Im worried for that team was the speed.
