Bad news good news... As others have said, you absolutely do need cs. But he is available on 3 hard nodes which certainly helps. Guessing you probably know that though!
The good news depends on how many ally points you have. CS drops quite frequently in bronzium packs, so if you have a stockpile of ally points, get to spending them! I was at your stage a couple of weeks ago, but I got around 60 of the last 100 shards from bronzium cards.
