Yes slice 6e mods to 6d, 6c, 6b, 6a will increase crew power and thus total ship power, that is the only stat of the ship that will increase, and it is a stat that means nothing in battle.
The important ship stats are only affected by mod rarity and mod level
Note: Ship stats below means all except total power
Level 15 6e mods add same stats as level 15 6a mods.
Next increase will not happen till:
CG enables mod tier to affect ship stats
or
Mods can be sliced to 7e
