I just unlocked it, is it any good to use? I don't have much of the really good ships so I was curious.

It's pretty dramatically different. Like, honestly I don't know how you could have reached this conclusion.
As for OP's question, from what I understand it was much better in Ships 1.0, but doesn't perform great in the current system.
