Odds don't go up by using refreshes. They stay the same but you get more attempts. That equals more positive results overall.
Are you at least refreshing the normal energy 3x a day? I honestly don't understand how you can have been pushing for a GL since they were released and not have one.
I once saw someone give the "advice" to farm characters by doing them 1 sim at a time, then stop after you got one shard because they believed the overlords were limiting you to one shard per day. Not all advice is equal.
