Should I abandon all char farms and focus on gear?

I personally think you should abandon most of those and start farming for darth revan.
You also have general grievous sat at 7* with no gear, gearing him and building a squad around him will help more than any of those farms

I would definitely quit farming Baze, he's a good toon but he's on a 20 energy node, and the only content for which he was necessary (Hoth TB) is no longer that relevant. Shoretrooper is a similar situation, although he's still much more useful. These are characters whose time has come and gone, and there are much much better uses for that energy now. You should not be farming toons who were great over a year ago instead of toons who are great now or are likely to be great in the future (or are required to unlock a legendary/journey character).
I would not abandon character farms altogether though, you should be working on getting ready to unlock DR and Malak, and probably be preparing for GeoTB. I almost never farm gear, I get almost all my gear from raids and the various shops. The drop rates on purple/gold gear are so abysmal that I can't stomach farming them off nodes unless I only need a couple of that particular piece. This approach has worked out well for me, but that may be because I score top 3 in raids. If you don't consistently get enough gear from raids and you don't have enough of the shop currencies to acquire gear that way, you may need to farm some.

I don't think anyone should ever completely abandon character farms, both because they take so long to finish and because farming gear with energy isn't very efficient. You could probably trim it down, though.

Baze is a lengthy farm and he's past his prime, plus he needs to be with Chirrut for maximum effectiveness - all that combines to make him cumbersome both to farm and to use. I share your aversion to leaving characters unfinished (I only have like 14 characters left to 7*, so great is my obsession), but Shore/Range can both work at less than 7 stars, so you could probably afford to just farm one of them. Then use the extra energy you'll have daily for gear. If you go with Range you could probably refresh him once a day and still have energy to spare, since he's only a 12-energy node.

You could also focus on hard nodes that drop both gear you need and shards for someone you haven't finished yet, in order to get the most "value" per point of energy spent. Even if it's not a character you plan on using right away, it'll put a dent in the gap between where you are and where you want to be.

I am trying as hard as I can to get my seps ready :) b1 is on my list, b2 is 7*, magnaguard is almost 7* and droideka is being farmed with Cad's ship :)

My reasoning for baze was that he would be my tank in a rebel GA team along with chirrut... Is this thought invalid?

I just really want to free up old ben for a second jedi team now that GK is leaving to be with padme and Juhani would rather hang with the OR crew....

I mean he's still decent. I was just saying that unless he's nearly finished, he'd definitely be the one to put on the back burner if you needed to free up some daily energy. He was one of the longest farms for me to complete.

I’m at 4.1mil @hardvig I’m spending the next two months just farming gear... teams for malak, then working on seps, clones and then my toons outside of gp matchmaking for ga.. I’d like to be able to keep top 45 toons for offence (8x5 squads plus a spare) and have the next raft of toons for defense..

So my opinion, farm shards till you have 7* on the ones you want, then farm gear till your done..

Id probably farm for DR and get gear from the shops. Also, when I farm for gear I usually farm hard nodes when I can so that I do both gear and shards at the same time. Carth is great for that, since he gives you carbs.

Never stop farming characters.
