“What factors make a ship have more Speed?
My pilots are faster than other competitors, yet my main ship takes its turn second
Sounds like it is Mods. It doesn’t seem to matter what the mods are but 6 dot mods matter.
A fully upgraded ship's speed is enhanced by Crew Power.
Crew power is calculated as follows: crew_rating = unit_level + star_level + gear_level_and_pieces + ability_levels + mod_levels
And Saul_Iscariot is correct. The dots on the mods are what matters, not the tier
