You should build a clear strategy and farming order and not just build up random chars left and right (as already mentioned above). You find very good "SWGOH Farm 2025" videos on Youtube.
Beside that you should always have a "passion project". Toons and teams you love in Star Wars ... cause in the end it is all about having fun. :-) Free2Play or Paying is just amatter of how fast you progress but you will find F2P players have top noth efficience for their GM vs. Pay guys having a bit blown up accounts. ;-) So either way ... this game's layout is aming for years to play.
